When you were a child, you were afraid of the dark. Your parents checked the closet, under the bed and behind the door and assured you all was well; you feared the night regardless. You knew the things lurking in the darkness were too good at hiding from human sight. Humans have always been afraid of the dark, and afraid of what might be in it. Sometimes, you fear it still.

If you're lucky, the night just scares you.

Sometimes people get hurt in the dark. Sometimes they never see the day.

Sometimes people catch a glimpse of the things that go bump in the night, and never sleep easy again, thinking of what waits out there in the darkness.

But some people face the dark. Some people face the shadows, and bump back.
